Artist Background: Thomas Tjapaltjarri was born c. 1964 in the Gibson Desert, Western Australia. In 1984 he was one of a group of nine that made national headlines. Titled "The Last Nomads" the group of nine walked out of the desert and made contact with the "modern" world for the first time.
Thomas Tjapaltjarri commenced painting in 1987 following his brothers Warlimpirrnga and Walala, both highly regarded artists. With clear bold brushstrokes Thomas paints "Tingari" his Tjukurrpa stories of dreaming of the early journeys of Tingari ancestors.
