Artist Background: Mary Brown Napangardi was born in Circa 1953 and comes from Mandarine, south-west of Yuendumu in Central Australia. She is a Warlpiri woman. The central themes of Mary's paintings include traditional women's ceremonies and Tjukurrpa stories which relate to her homeland and those lands around her country. Often painting on black background, she has a distinct way of painting this iconography. Mary is married to the celebrated Western Desert artist, Ronnie Tjampitjinpa.
