Artist Background: Esther Giles Nampitjinpa was born circa 1946 and grew up in the desert living a nomadic lifestyle with her tribe. Her family moved to the then newly established government settlement of Papunya. Esther’s paintings represent the traditional homelands associated with her ancestral heritage, The concentric circles often depicted in Esther’s paintings are a series of waterholes located near her homeland, surrounded by sand dunes, rock escarpments and all connected by the Tjukurrpa lines of her ancestors.
